Porsche 961
The 961 name was first pegged as a race car for Porsche back in 1986 where it did a brief stint in a few motorsports championships. The old 961 only ran a total of three races - 24 Hours of Lemans, Camel GT Championship, and Lemans once again - before it experienced some technical difficulties and was laid to rest in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. In 2011, the rumormill started buzzing with the idea that Porsche was fiddling around with a new 961 that could eventually be the company’s new V8-powered flagship car. The 961 is said to also carry a hybrid option that, together with the V8, could pump out up to 600HP. |
